Updated Checked by the Tax-Services.ca editorial team How we check
Calgary residents reach the CRA the same way as everyone else in Canada: call 1-800-959-8281 for personal tax questions, Monday to Friday, 8 am to 8 pm Eastern (that’s 6 am to 6 pm in Calgary), or use My Account online. We assumed “CRA” here means the Canada Revenue Agency. Nothing we found on the CRA’s own pages promises a walk-in counter in Calgary.
How do you contact the CRA from Calgary?
The CRA’s contact page lists a main line for personal taxes and benefits. Alberta isn’t split off, so it’s 1-800-959-8281 from anywhere in the country except Yukon, the Northwest Territories and Nunavut, which have their own number. For the Canada Child Benefit, the GST/HST credit and related payments there’s a second number, 1-800-387-1193, with the same weekday hours. Both lines are closed on weekends and on public holidays.
Some things don’t need a call at all, and most people can skip the hold music. The CRA says its automated lines give account balances, refund status and tax return status. The automated benefits service runs much longer than the live agents, from 6 am to 3 am Eastern every day. And there’s an online chat during business hours.
| What you need | Where |
|---|---|
| Personal tax questions | 1-800-959-8281 |
| Benefits and credits | 1-800-387-1193 |
| Refund or return status | 1-800-959-8281, automated option |
| Account and messages | My Account on canada.ca |
Calling from Calgary at 7 am Mountain time? You’ve caught the line at 9 am Eastern, so it’s open. Calling at 6 pm Mountain, though, means it’s 8 pm in Ottawa and the line is about to close.
Is there a CRA office you can visit in Calgary?
We couldn’t confirm one. The CRA’s contact page sends you to a “Find an address” page for mailing addresses and office locations. When we read that page, it listed mailing addresses tied to particular forms and no Calgary counter. Directory sites do list a Calgary tax services office, but a directory isn’t the CRA, and it doesn’t tell you whether anyone will see you without an appointment.
So if you were planning to turn up with a box of receipts, don’t. Phone first, or send documents through My Account. It’ll save you a wasted trip downtown.
What does Alberta tax look like in 2026?
Once you’ve got the CRA sorted, the next question is the bill itself. Alberta’s provincial brackets for 2026 are below. The Government of Alberta’s personal income tax page lists the same rates and says thresholds and credit amounts rise by 2% in 2026.
| Taxable income | Alberta rate |
|---|---|
| Up to $61,200 | 8% |
| $61,200 to $154,259 | 10% |
| $154,259 to $185,111 | 12% |
| $185,111 to $246,813 | 13% |
| $246,813 to $370,220 | 14% |
| Over $370,220 | 15% |
You pay federal tax on top. On a taxable income of $80,000, the tax engine behind our income tax calculator gives $15,247 in total, of which $4,954 is Alberta’s share. On $40,000 the total is about $4,675. Those use the basic personal amounts only.
Wondering what’s left after all that? The take-home pay calculator adds CPP and EI.
Which dates applied to the last return?
The 2026 return dates haven’t been published on the pages we read, so we’re using the 2025 return. It was due April 30, 2026, for both filing and paying. People with self-employment income had until June 15, 2026 to file, but any tax owing was still due April 30. Confirm the dates for the next return on the CRA’s page before you plan around them.
If the CRA asks you to pay in instalments, the tax instalments calculator shows what four equal payments look like. And for a refund estimate before you file, try the tax refund calculator.
What should you do about a suspicious call?
If a call, text or message claims to be the CRA and demands payment right now, slow down. Don’t give out your SIN, banking details or passwords. Hang up or ignore it, then phone the number printed on the CRA’s own contact page, and ask whether there’s a real file in your name. A genuine agent can verify you without scaring you into paying on the spot.
What couldn’t we confirm?
We haven’t listed hours or an address for any Calgary location, since we couldn’t confirm them on a CRA page. The same goes for wait times and appointment rules. The CRA’s contact page itself says wait times weren’t available when we read it.
Our sources
Phone numbers and hours are from the Canada Revenue Agency‘s contact page, and the address details from its “Find an address” page. Alberta brackets come from the Government of Alberta’s personal income tax page. The deadlines are from our own 2025-return data, and the totals are our arithmetic. This is an independent guide, separate from any government body.
