Updated Checked by the Tax-Services.ca editorial team How we check
There is no CRA walk-in counter in Calgary to visit. The CRA’s own office locations page says there is no walk-in counter service at the tax services offices and tax centres it lists, so the quickest route to a person is the phone: 1-800-959-8281 for personal taxes, weekdays 8 am to 8 pm Eastern. That’s 6 am to 6 pm Calgary time.
Is there a CRA office in Calgary you can walk into?
Not for tax questions. The CRA does list an Alberta tax services office in Calgary at 220 4th Avenue South East, Calgary AB T2G 0L1, but the same page carries a plain note:
There is no walk-in counter service at these locations.
CRA office locations, Canada Revenue Agency, canada.ca
So that address is for mail and office contacts, not for dropping in. Some pages online show opening hours for a “CRA office in Calgary.” Don’t drive to one of those without checking canada.ca first. Service Canada runs its own centres in Calgary, but those are a different organization, and we haven’t confirmed that they can answer questions about your tax account.
Who do you call?
| Question about | Number |
|---|---|
| Personal taxes and most benefits | 1-800-959-8281 |
| Canada Child Benefit and GST/HST credit | 1-800-387-1193 |
| Business taxes | 1-800-959-5525 |
The personal and benefit lines are open Monday to Friday, 8 am to 8 pm Eastern time, as listed on the CRA’s contact page. That’s 6 am to 6 pm in Calgary, which catches people out. Wait times aren’t posted, and your call may be sent to the automated line. Automated service covers refund status, account balance and benefit payment dates, and it runs around the clock except for a maintenance window in the early morning.
Can you skip the call altogether?
Often, yes. My Account shows your notice of assessment, balance and refund status, and My Business Account does the same for a corporation or self-employed business. The CRA also has an online chat for selected questions. Try those first, especially if you’re calling from a job site on your lunch break.
If you can’t afford a preparer, the CRA describes free tax clinics and outreach help. The income limits differ between CRA pages, so we’ve left them out. Ask the CRA page for the current rules before you rely on any number you find elsewhere. Small business owners can also get free online or in-person help, or a visit from a CRA liaison officer, according to the CRA’s get tax help page.
What should you have ready before you call?
Expect to be asked to prove who you are. Have your social insurance number and your last notice of assessment beside you, plus any letter the CRA sent. A missing number costs you another wait in the queue.
It also helps to know your own estimate. A person on $60,000 of employment income in Alberta pays about $5,338 federal tax and $2,631 Alberta tax, which is $7,970 in all, based on the engine’s 2026 numbers. Add CPP of $3,362 and EI of $978 and they keep $47,691 over the year. Check a figure like yours in the income tax calculator, and then you’ll know whether the number the CRA gives you is about right. For a refund, try the tax refund calculator.
What if you need to send something to Calgary?
Read the letter first. A CRA letter that asks for documents will name where they should go, and it often isn’t the Calgary street address. If you’re mailing a paper return or a form with no letter, the CRA’s address finder picks the right mailing address for each type of document. Keep a copy of whatever you send and note the date.
Is the Calgary fax number any use?
The CRA lists a fax number for the Calgary office, 403-264-5843, but only send something that way if a CRA letter or agent tells you to. Faxes sent on a hunch tend to land in the wrong pile. Ask on the phone, and have the agent say which channel to use. It saves a second round of paperwork, and a lot of waiting.
Mistakes and limits
One mistake is treating a search result as an official address. The CRA’s own site is the only place to check. Another is going in person when a call or a login would answer the question, which wastes a trip.
Self-employed in Calgary? You may need to pay instalments, so the tax instalments calculator is worth a look before you call, and the self-employed tax calculator gives a first estimate of the bill. If you think you’re missing credits, the tax credits calculator lists the federal ones.
Sources, and how we checked them
The phone numbers, hours, the Calgary address and the no walk-in note come from the Canada Revenue Agency‘s contact and office locations pages, read in October 2026. Tax figures in the example come from 2026 federal and Alberta rates. We’re an independent site, and no government body is behind it.
