Updated Checked by the Tax-Services.ca editorial team How we check
There isn’t one CRA Ottawa office. The CRA lists several Ottawa addresses, and the Eastern Ontario tax services office sits at 333 Laurier Avenue West, Ottawa ON K1A 0L9. None of them takes visitors at a counter, because the CRA states it offers no walk-in counter service at these locations.
Which Ottawa address is the right one?
That depends on why you’re writing. The CRA’s office locations page shows addresses on Gladwin Crescent, Heron Road, Walkley Road, Laurier Avenue West and Kent Street. They serve different parts of the agency, and the page doesn’t tell an ordinary taxpayer which one to pick.
So don’t choose one yourself. Take the mailing address from the letter, notice or form you’re replying to. If nothing was mailed to you and you’re starting from scratch, phone first and ask where the paper should go.
| Item | What the CRA pages show |
|---|---|
| Eastern Ontario tax services office | 333 Laurier Avenue West, Ottawa ON K1A 0L9 |
| Walk-in counter | None |
| Fax listed for that office | 613-952-1982 |
| Tax centre for paper income tax and benefit returns | Sudbury (1050 Notre Dame Avenue) |
Is the Ottawa office where my return gets processed?
No. The CRA’s Ottawa page points personal income tax and benefit returns to the Sudbury Tax Centre, and the same page lists the Prince Edward Island Tax Centre in Summerside as the address for some personal submissions. Business returns don’t go to a single place: the right tax centre depends on the form, so use the CRA’s address picker. That means mailing something to a Laurier Avenue address is unlikely to speed anything up.
The picker is worth the thirty seconds it takes. Different forms, even from the same person, can head to different cities.
What is quicker than mail to Ottawa?
The phone and your online account. The personal tax line is 1-800-959-8281 and benefits are on 1-800-387-1193, both Monday to Friday, 8 am to 8 pm Eastern. Ottawa is on Eastern time, so those hours are the local ones for you. Automated services run from 6 am to 3 am. Business owners can use 1-800-959-5525 in the same hours.
The CRA also has an online chat and a chatbot linked from its contact page, and a free tax clinic option through the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program. We haven’t listed income limits for the clinics, since the CRA pages disagree.
A quick check before you contact them
Suppose you’re in Ottawa on an $85,000 salary and your assessment looks off. The income tax calculator gives $15,551.05 in federal and Ontario income tax for that pay, plus $5,769.52 in CPP and EI, leaving $63,679.43. It won’t match your return to the dollar, because it leaves out deductions and most credits. But if your notice is thousands away, you have a question worth asking.
Self-employed? The self-employed tax calculator gives an estimate, though it’s only a rough guide. If you owe more than $3,000 a year, the tax instalments calculator shows the four-payment schedule.
Common mistakes with Ottawa mail
Sending originals is the big one, and it’s easy to do when a letter asks for “a copy” and you grab whatever is on the desk.
Don’t.
Keep copies of everything, and note the date you posted it. Hold on to the postal receipt too.
Another slip is writing to a business address for a personal matter, or the reverse.
And be careful with phone numbers found on random web pages. Use the ones on the CRA contact page. Its fraud and identity theft line is 1-833-995-2336, open weekdays.
Why does Ottawa have so many addresses?
Some of the entries on the CRA’s list are technology or administrative sites, not service desks. Two of them are the Ottawa Technology Centre, one on Gladwin Crescent and one on Heron Road, and others are tax services offices. Picture a Gatineau resident who sees “Ottawa” on a government envelope and assumes it’s a local service desk. It isn’t, and the return address on the letter is the only one that counts. A few extra minutes of checking beats a paycheque-sized refund sitting in the wrong pile.
Where the numbers come from
Addresses, phone numbers, hours and the no walk-in statement come from the Canada Revenue Agency‘s office location, Ottawa tax services office and contact pages, read in October 2026. Calculator figures use 2026 rates. No level of government runs or endorses this site.
Frequently asked questions
Where is the CRA office in Ottawa?
The Ottawa tax services office is listed at 333 Laurier Avenue West, Ottawa ON K1A 0L9. The CRA lists other Ottawa addresses for other parts of the agency.
Can I visit a CRA office in Ottawa in person?
No. The CRA's pages state that it does not offer walk-in counter service at its offices.
Should I mail my tax documents to the Ottawa office?
Use the address on the letter or form you're answering. The Ottawa office page links individual returns to the Sudbury tax centre, so a general address may not help.
