Tax changes in October 2026: what to know

This is the October 2026 update. We write one each month from what the CRA and other official sources have published.

What is new?

  • The 2027 EI rates are out. The employee rate is 1.64% on earnings up to $70,800, with a maximum premium of $1,161.12. See 2026 vs 2027 tax numbers.
  • The 2027 RRSP limit is $35,390, up from $33,810.
  • On the benefits side, the second Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit payment was due October 5, and the CCB is paid on October 20. See the CGEB dates and CCB dates.

What is still to come?

  • The 2027 CPP earnings ceilings, usually published in the fall.
  • The federal indexation factor, the 2027 tax brackets and the basic personal amount, usually in late November.
  • The 2027 TFSA limit.

We will update the 2027 pages when each one is published. In the meantime the take-home pay 2027 preview shows the effect with clear assumptions.

What should you do now?

Check your RRSP room before year end, and see the tax calendar and My tax year for the dates that apply to you. Watch for scams, which spike near deadlines: how to spot a CRA scam.

Where does this information come from?

The EI and RRSP figures come from the Canada Revenue Agency limits table and the OSFI report on the 2027 EI premium rate. The benefit dates come from the CRA benefit payment pages.
