How much will the Canada Child Benefit pay you? Two parents with a toddler, a ten year old and $70,000 of net income get $10,752 a year, which is $896 a month. Enter your children and income below to see your own amount for July 2026 to June 2027.
Why does the benefit shrink as income rises?
Every child brings a maximum amount, and the cut gets bigger with each extra child you have. Once family income passes $38,237, the benefit is reduced by a share of every extra dollar, and above $82,847 a second, steeper formula takes over, which is where most people are surprised. Here are both steps, by number of children.
| Children | Cut between $38,237 and $82,847 | Cut above $82,847 |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 7% of the extra income | $3,123 plus 3.2% |
| 2 | 13.5% | $6,022 plus 5.7% |
| 3 | 19% | $8,476 plus 8% |
| 4 or more | 23% | $10,260 plus 9.5% |
In the last column, the percentage applies to income above $82,847. The dollar amount is what has already been cut by the time you get there.
What does a real family get?
Go back to the family in the opening line. Two children give a maximum of $15,040, which is $8,157 plus $6,883. Their $70,000 sits $31,763 over the first threshold, and 13.5% of that takes away $4,288. The benefit is $10,752. That’s the whole sum.
Drop the income to $30,000 and nothing gets taken off. You’d get the full $15,040, about $1,253 a month, and that’s it.
Now take a household with twins under 6 and $90,000 of income. Their maximum is $16,314, and it doesn’t last. Since income is above $82,847, the cut is $6,022 plus 5.7% of the $7,153 over that line, which is $6,430. So a higher income means a smaller cheque, and this one comes to $9,884 a year, or $823.69 a month.
What about a child with a disability?
A child with an approved disability tax credit brings the child disability benefit, worth up to $3,480 a year. It’s reduced once income passes $82,847, at 3.2% with one eligible child and 5.7% with two or more. Enter the number of eligible children and the calculator adds it for you. The disability tax credit calculator covers the credit itself.
Provincial child benefits and mid-year changes in custody aren’t modelled. The benefit also uses income from the previous tax year, so a raise or a layoff now only counts after your next return is filed.
Which other benefits are worth a look?
If your income is modest, you may well qualify for the quarterly payment in the GST/HST credit calculator. A parent going on leave can estimate pay with the maternity and parental leave calculator. If you’ve lost a job, try the EI benefits calculator.
Where do the numbers come from?
The maximum amounts, thresholds and reduction rates are the figures for the payment year from July 2026 to June 2027, taken from the federal child benefit pages. The upper formula uses the published reduction at the second threshold. We checked the figures on 29 September 2026. This website has no connection with the CRA or any government body.
