Updated Checked by the Tax-Services.ca editorial team How we check
You can’t walk into the CRA in Mississauga and get served. The agency lists a Greater Toronto Area West tax services office at 5800 Hurontario Street, but its own page says there’s no walk-in counter service at its offices. For most things you’ll phone, use My Account or write.
“CRA Mississauga” could mean an address, a phone number or a person to fix a problem, and we can’t tell which you’re after. This page covers all three as far as the official pages allow. We assumed you live in or near Mississauga, Ontario, and we’d rather say where we hit a wall than guess.
Can you walk into the CRA office there?
No. The CRA’s office locations page lists the Mississauga tax services office and then states that these locations have no walk-in counter. Showing up with a box of receipts won’t get you a desk, and you’ll have burned gas and a parking fee for nothing.
The page also says the CRA closed its drop boxes across the country as of 29 May 2026. If you used to drop an envelope off in person, that option is gone, and mail is the replacement.
A Service Canada Centre in Mississauga is a different organization, so rule it out before you plan a trip and then wonder why nobody at the counter can open your tax file. Service Canada handles things like Employment Insurance and the Social Insurance Number, not your income tax file.
Short version: check first.
How do you reach the CRA by phone or online?
Everything below comes from the CRA’s contact page, which can change.
| What you need | Where | Hours or note |
|---|---|---|
| Personal tax questions | 1-800-959-8281 | Monday to Friday, 8 am to 8 pm ET |
| Business, payroll, GST/HST | 1-800-959-5525 | Same hours |
| Refund status, forms, contribution room | Automated phone service | 6 am to 3 am ET daily, with a maintenance gap |
| Account, returns, notices | My Account online | Needs a CRA sign-in |
| Paper returns and letters | A tax centre by mail | The mailing page lists Sudbury for Ontario |
Wait times weren’t shown when we looked, and the page warns that calls can be sent to automated services. Try My Account first, because most questions about a notice of assessment, a benefit payment or a balance owing get answered there faster than on hold.
What should you have in front of you before you call?
Your Social Insurance Number, your date of birth, and the amount on line 15000 of a recent return (the CRA may ask you to confirm something like this). Bring the notice or letter you’re calling about. Write down the reference number on it.
Want to know if your numbers are even in the right range first? Take $60,000 of taxable income in Ontario. The income tax calculator engine puts federal and Ontario tax at about $9,417 with basic personal amounts only. Your real bill will differ once credits and deductions count, but if your notice says $20,000, you know to ask why.
Jot down the agent’s name and the date as you go. If you’re told something surprising, ask them to say where it is written, so you can look it up on the CRA site afterwards.
Is there free tax help nearby?
The CRA runs a free tax clinic program (the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program) for people who qualify. Different CRA pages show different income limits, so we’re leaving the dollar figures out. Check the CRA page for the current ones.
Self-employed people and small business owners can ask for a liaison officer, and the CRA says that help is free, online or in person. Try it if you run a small shop and dread the paperwork. Our self-employed tax calculator gives you a rough figure to bring along, though it leaves out EI and lets deductions lower income tax without lowering CPP.
Mistakes that waste an afternoon
Paying a “CRA office” for help. A consulting shop near the CRA address isn’t connected to the agency, and this website has no connection either. The CRA doesn’t charge you to talk to it.
Calling when a letter says to use My Account. Wasting an afternoon on hold for something you can do in five minutes online is common.
Missing a payment date because the letter sat in a pile. If you owe instalments through the year, the tax instalments calculator shows what you’d pay each quarter. And if you expect money back, the tax refund calculator gives a rough idea before you file.
What if you mailed something and heard nothing?
Give it a few weeks, then check My Account before you phone, because many items show up there before anyone writes back. If it still isn’t showing, call and quote the date you mailed it and the address you used. Keep proof of mailing; a receipt from the post office for a few bucks beats an argument later.
Where does this come from?
The CRA‘s contact information page, its office locations page and its tax services offices and tax centres page, read on 30 September 2026. The free-help details come from the CRA’s outreach and tax help page. We couldn’t confirm any appointment service at the Mississauga office, so ask the CRA by phone if you think you need one. This is an independent guide with no tie to the government.
