Updated Checked by the Tax-Services.ca editorial team How we check
A $150K salary in Ontario leaves you about $104,320 a year after tax, CPP and EI, using 2026 rules. That’s $8,693.32 a month, or $4,012.30 every two weeks. You keep 69.5% of your pay, and $39,911 goes to income tax.
How is the $150K tax bill made up?
| Item | Per year | Share of pay |
|---|---|---|
| Federal income tax | $25,302.14 | 16.9% |
| Ontario income tax | $14,608.45 | 9.7% |
| CPP with the second tier | $4,646.45 | 3.1% |
| EI | $1,123.07 | 0.7% |
| Pay you keep | $104,319.89 | 69.5% |
The federal part is the larger one. On taxable income of $148,873, the federal rate is 14% up to $58,523, then 20.5% to $117,045, then 26% above that, all from the CRA’s 2026 table. Ontario’s rates run from 5.05% up to 11.16% in the bracket that ends at $150,000.
The Ontario health premium and surtax are in there too.
What pay do you need to take home $100,000?
People often come at this from the other end. They know the take-home figure they need and want the salary. For $100,000 net a year in Ontario, the net to gross tool gives about $142,366 before deductions. So at $150,000 you’re already $4,320 above that goal. Every year.
If you want to run your own target, use the net to gross calculator. It works backwards from the pay you want to receive and tells you the salary to ask for.
What happens to tax above $150,000?
At this pay you sit near the top of Ontario’s 11.16% bracket. Your taxable income of $148,873 is about $1,100 under the line, because part of your CPP comes off as a deduction. Once taxable income passes $150,000, Ontario’s rate on the next slice rises to 12.16%. We didn’t model pay much beyond $150,000 for this page, so check your own figure in the marginal tax rate calculator.
Right now, a $1,000 raise leaves about $566, so you keep 56.6% of it. The tool reports a 43% rate on the next dollar here, which is the combined federal and Ontario rate with the surtax. At this income, well over a third of any extra pay goes to tax, which is worth keeping in mind when a job offer at $160,000 sounds like a big step up but adds less than you’d hope to your bank balance. Not huge.
Does $150K after tax improve with an RRSP?
Yes. This is where an RRSP is at its strongest. A $10,000 contribution lowers your income tax by $4,340.96, so the real cost is $5,659.04. That’s the 43.4% rate working for you, and it’s the main reason people with high pay are told to use their room every year. You’ll need contribution room, which shows on your notice of assessment, and we can’t see that.
The RRSP calculator shows what the money grows to. One honest caution: you pay tax later when you take it out, so the deduction is a deferral. If your income falls in retirement, you come out ahead.
What could make your actual pay differ?
A $150K job often comes with a benefits plan, a pension or a share plan. Each of those can move your cheque by hundreds a month, and our estimate counts none of them. Bonuses are taxed at the same high rate as your last dollars, so a $10,000 bonus won’t deliver $10,000.
Also, the figures assume one job for the whole year and no other income. Add rental or investment income and the tax changes, so the income tax calculator is the better tool. The take-home pay calculator gives the same split shown above for any salary you type in.
Don’t rely on one number, because the real cheque depends on what your employer deducts for benefits, pension and any share plan, and those differ from job to job. Take $8,693.32 as the top of your monthly range, then compare it with a pay stub.
Where do these numbers come from?
Federal and Ontario brackets come from the Canada Revenue Agency’s 2026 rates page. CPP and EI figures come from CRA payroll data. We checked the inputs on 29 September 2026, though we haven’t confirmed the Ontario Health Premium steps on the province’s page. This website is not linked with the CRA or the Ontario government.
