Net Pay on an 80000 Salary in Ontario for 2026

Updated Checked by the Tax-Services.ca editorial team How we check

What does 80000 after tax in Ontario come to? For 2026 you keep $60,302.63. Net income and take-home pay mean the same thing in daily talk, and here that’s $5,025.22 a month or $2,319.33 every two weeks.

Say you’re comparing a job offer or building a budget. Which figure do you want, and what exactly is missing from it? Here’s the breakdown, and after it the places where people go wrong, because there are a few.

What comes off an 80000 salary in Ontario?

Item on $80,000 Per year
Federal income tax $9,242.60
Ontario income tax $4,885.26
CPP $4,446.45
EI $1,123.07
Income tax in total $14,127.85
Take-home pay $60,302.63

You keep 75.4% of your gross pay. The tax on your next dollar is 29.65%, the same as at $70,000, because both salaries sit inside the same federal and Ontario brackets.

Is net income the same as take-home pay?

Not on a tax return. On your return, net income is a specific line that comes before deductions and credits, and it isn’t what lands in your bank account. Searchers often use the words loosely, and this page follows them: after-tax income here means the money you actually receive.

So if a form or a lender asks for your net income, read the question twice. It might want your pay after all deductions, or the figure printed on your notice of assessment. Those can be far apart.

How much more do you keep from $10,000 extra?

Moving from $70,000 to $80,000 adds $6,516.36 to your take-home pay. Going from $80,000 to $90,000 adds $6,894.30. The second step keeps more because the CPP second tier ends at $85,000, so the last part of that raise pays no CPP at all.

After that point, extra pay only meets income tax. A raise leaves you close to 69 cents on the dollar until you reach the next brackets, which start at $107,785 for Ontario and $117,045 for federal tax.

Work out your own raise with the salary increase calculator, or check a one-off payment in the bonus tax calculator.

What if the pay is $80,000 in another province?

Federal tax, CPP and EI don’t change. Only provincial tax does, and the gap is bigger than many people guess. On the same salary you’d keep $60,697.50 in Alberta, $59,021.87 in Saskatchewan and $58,228.21 in Manitoba.

Ontario’s $60,302.63 is in the upper half. If you’re weighing a job in another province, put both offers into the take-home pay calculator and compare the result, not the salary.

Which mistakes throw the number off?

The first is forgetting that a pay stub carries more than tax. Group insurance, pension contributions and union dues all reduce your deposit, and none appear above. The second is comparing gross salaries across jobs when one includes a bonus that isn’t guaranteed.

The third is treating the tax withheld as your final tax. Your return settles the year, so a refund or a balance owing can follow. Credits beyond the basic personal amount, the pension amount and the EI amount aren’t counted here. The Ontario Health Premium is inside the Ontario figure, but we could confirm only its top amounts, so expect a few dollars of wiggle room.

A $5,000 RRSP contribution shows the effect of a deduction. At $80,000 it costs $3,517.50 in take-home pay, and the rest comes back as tax saved. The RRSP calculator covers the growth side. If you need the pay before tax for a chosen take-home, the net to gross calculator works it out. For example, $80,000 in hand needs about $108,456 gross in Ontario.

Paid by the hour instead? Turn your wage into a yearly salary first with the hourly to salary calculator, then run that figure through the take-home tool. Overtime and unpaid weeks change the total, so use the hours you really work.

Where do the numbers come from?

Brackets, basic personal amounts and the CPP and EI limits are the 2026 figures published by the Canada Revenue Agency. We checked them on 29 September 2026. This website has no connection with the CRA or any government body.
