Updated Checked by the Tax-Services.ca editorial team How we check
Quebec income tax runs from 14% to 25.75% in 2026, on four brackets, and it’s charged on top of federal tax. If you earn $60,000 in Quebec, our calculator puts your combined federal and Quebec income tax at $9,509.42, which is 15.8% of income.
What are the Quebec income tax brackets for 2026?
Four brackets. Each rate applies only to the slice of income inside it, so nobody’s whole income is taxed at 25.75%, and most people never reach the top bracket at all. These figures come from the Quebec finance ministry’s 2026 parameters, which indexed the thresholds by 2.05%. We couldn’t open Revenu Québec’s own rates page to compare, so check it before you file.
| Taxable income | Quebec rate |
|---|---|
| Up to $54,345 | 14% |
| $54,345 to $108,680 | 19% |
| $108,680 to $132,245 | 24% |
| Over $132,245 | 25.75% |
Everyone also gets a basic personal amount of $18,952, which earns a credit at 14%. Workers can deduct 6% of work income up to $1,450. Both come from the same set of parameters.
How does the federal side change for Quebec residents?
Federal brackets are the same across the country: 14% up to $58,523, then 20.5%, 26%, 29% and 33% above $258,482. But Quebec residents get a federal abatement of 16.5% on the basic federal tax, because Quebec runs its own personal tax system. That’s why federal tax on the same salary is lower here than in Ontario. At $60,000 it’s $4,427.35 in Quebec against $5,338.30 in Ontario.
The CRA’s own rates page sends Quebec residents to Revenu Québec for provincial rates, so the two sets of numbers come from two bodies. The income tax calculator applies both for you when you choose Quebec.
Is Quebec income tax higher than Ontario’s?
Yes, at every income we tried, and the gap widens as you earn more. Here’s what the calculator gives for employment income, with the QPP, QPIP and EI amounts it counts alongside.
| Employment income | Quebec income tax | Ontario income tax | Difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| $40,000 | $4,552.50 | $4,362.71 | $189.79 |
| $60,000 | $9,509.42 | $8,320.50 | $1,188.92 |
| $90,000 | $19,880.03 | $17,033.55 | $2,846.48 |
| $120,000 | $31,222.02 | $26,887.71 | $4,334.31 |
Income tax isn’t the whole picture, though. Quebec residents pay QPP rather than CPP, plus QPIP premiums, and the EI premium rate is set separately for Quebec. The contribution column in the calculator shows $4,597.50 at $60,000, against $4,339.75 in Ontario.
How much would you owe on $90,000 in Quebec?
Federal tax comes to $9,347.33 after the abatement and Quebec tax to $10,532.70, so $19,880.03 in all. That’s 22.1% of income. QPP, QPIP and EI take another $6,178.00, and $63,941.97 is left.
Want to know what the next raise costs you?
The marginal tax rate calculator shows the tax on your next dollar.
What catches Quebec taxpayers out?
Quebec residents file a provincial return separately from the federal one. Instalments also work differently: the CRA test is $3,000 of net tax owing, and for the Quebec part it’s $1,800. The tax instalments calculator gives you the four dates and amounts.
Self-employed people pay both halves of QPP. Our self-employed tax calculator handles that, though it leaves EI out of its total, so add it yourself if it applies to you.
The estimates leave out benefits, refundable credits such as the solidarity credit, and any special claims. Treat them as a starting point, and check the final figures against your own slips when you file, because a real return has more moving parts than any online tool can hold.
Where the numbers come from
Quebec brackets, the basic personal amount and the 2.05% indexation are from the Quebec Ministry of Finance’s 2026 personal income tax parameters. Federal brackets are from the Canada Revenue Agency’s 2026 rates page. The 16.5% abatement, the work deduction and the QPIP rate follow the published rules of the CRA and Revenu Québec. This site has no link with the CRA, Revenu Québec or any government.
