What 60k After Tax Looks Like in Every Province

Updated Checked by the Tax-Services.ca editorial team How we check

What’s 60k after tax in Canada? Somewhere between $44,726 and $48,773 a year, depending on where you work. In Ontario you keep $47,339.75 a year, or $3,944.98 a month. In Nova Scotia the same pay leaves $44,726.34.

How much is 60k after tax in each province and territory?

Every figure here comes from the take-home pay calculator, using 2026 tax data, no RRSP contribution and pay from one job. That covers federal and provincial income tax, CPP and EI, plus QPP and QPIP in Quebec.

Province or territory Kept per year Kept per month Provincial tax
Nunavut $48,772.89 $4,064.41 $1,549.07
Northwest Territories $47,938.02 $3,994.83 $2,383.94
Yukon $47,788.92 $3,982.41 $2,533.04
British Columbia $47,754.57 $3,979.55 $2,567.39
Alberta $47,690.65 $3,974.22 $2,631.30
Ontario $47,339.75 $3,944.98 $2,982.20
Saskatchewan $46,519.57 $3,876.63 $3,802.38
New Brunswick $46,047.62 $3,837.30 $4,274.34
Quebec $45,893.08 $3,824.42 $5,082.07
Manitoba $45,772.41 $3,814.37 $4,549.55
Newfoundland and Labrador $45,762.79 $3,813.57 $4,559.17
Prince Edward Island $45,446.60 $3,787.22 $4,875.35
Nova Scotia $44,726.34 $3,727.19 $5,595.62

The best and worst places are $4,046.55 a year apart, about $337 a month. One note on Quebec: the provincial column is Quebec income tax, and the federal amount is lower there because of the Quebec abatement.

What comes off a $60,000 salary?

Three items barely change from place to place. Federal income tax is $5,338.30, CPP is $3,361.75 and EI is $978.00, which adds up to $9,678.05, or 16.1% of pay, before a cent of provincial tax.

Provincial income tax is where the answers split. Nunavut takes $1,549.07 from the same salary. Nova Scotia takes $5,595.62. Quebec is the odd one out on contributions, since it runs its own pension plan: QPP is $3,559.50, EI drops to $780.00 and QPIP adds $258.00.

How are CPP and EI worked out on 60k?

Outside Quebec, CPP is 5.95% of the $56,500 above the $3,500 exemption, which is $3,361.75. EI is 1.63% of the whole $60,000, which is $978.00. The CRA’s CPP contribution table and the CRA’s EI premium table list the rates. In Quebec, QPP of $3,559.50 takes the place of CPP.

In cheque terms, Nunavut leaves about $1,876 every two weeks, Ontario $1,821 and Nova Scotia $1,720. Same job, same hours, a gap of about $156 on every pay day.

Why does the province matter so much?

Each province sets its own tax steps, its own rates and its own basic amount (the income it doesn’t tax at all). Federal tax works the same everywhere, so any gap in your take-home pay comes from the provincial side.

Alberta and British Columbia are helped by lower rates on the first slice of income, a gap that looks small on one stub and adds up over a year of paycheques. Nunavut and the Northwest Territories combine low rates with larger basic amounts, which is why they top the table. The Atlantic provinces and Quebec charge more at this income, so the same salary keeps less there.

Your next dollar is taxed differently too. At $60,000 it’s 28.5% in Alberta, 29.65% in Ontario and 35.45% in Nova Scotia, and the marginal tax rate calculator shows it for any income and province.

Does moving provinces change your federal tax?

No. The federal figure stays at $5,338.30 on 60k wherever you live outside Quebec, and the only thing that moves is the provincial slice. So before you let a job offer pull you across the country, compare the pay after tax in both places, not before.

Ontario and Alberta side by side

Take a worker in Ontario on $60,000. Federal tax is $5,338.30 and Ontario tax is $2,982.20, while CPP takes $3,361.75 and EI takes $978.00. That leaves $47,339.75 a year.

An Alberta worker pays the same federal tax, CPP and EI. Alberta tax is $2,631.30, so they keep $47,690.65, which puts them $350.90 a year ahead.

What if you work backwards and want $45,000 a year in your account? Ontario needs a salary of about $56,609 and Alberta about $56,185, and the net to gross calculator finds the salary for any target.

Paid by the hour? Then $60,000 is about $28.85 an hour on a 40 hour week over 52 weeks. Put in your own rate and hours in the hourly to salary calculator.

Why won’t your pay stub match?

The table is an estimate for one job and one salary. It counts the basic personal amount and the pension and EI credits, and it leaves out other credits, benefits, union dues, taxable benefits and deductions such as RRSP savings.

A stub can differ for plenty of reasons: a bonus, an employer benefit, a raise part way through the year. What’s held back on each paycheque can also differ from the yearly total, which only settles when you file your return. A few provincial figures are still open, including the Newfoundland and Labrador basic amount and the British Columbia rate, where official sources disagree. Treat those two provinces as close but not exact.

That’s the honest limit of a table like this.

Where this information comes from

Tax rates, steps and credits are the 2026 figures published by the Canada Revenue Agency in its payroll deduction tables and provincial tax pages. CPP, EI and QPP limits are the 2026 amounts from the same tables and from Revenu Quebec. This site is a private guide and has no link to any government.
